Official state materials describe a free and confidential custody-information and notice service that operates around the clock. Events may include release, transfer, and escape. The Genesee County Sheriff's Corrections Division directly links Michigan VINE, making it the local notification route shown for the Jail and Flint City Lockup even though the Sheriff does not maintain a public release feed.

Michigan VINE also receives participating state-corrections information. County and state records remain different. A county-jail event comes from the local source agency. An MDOC event concerns a person within state corrections. The service overlays those agency records with search and notice tools; it does not convert them into a court judgment or a certified release transaction. It also does not state that every agency sends every possible event at the same pace.

Search Genesee VINELink Inmates

Begin at the Michigan VINELink search. This is a one-person check, so identity comes before status. A common name may produce several records from different agencies. Compare neutral details and the source agency rather than selecting the first result. If a number is available, use it with the spelling shown on the person's custody record.

1. Open Michigan VINELink and choose the offender or custody search.
2. Enter the name or available identifying number. Use the spelling tied to the booking or state record.
3. Compare all candidates by agency and the neutral details shown by the live service.
4. Open only the matched record. Read the custody label, agency, and displayed date exactly as written.
5. If the result indicates release or an out-of-custody event, corroborate it with GCSO or the relevant state office when documentary accuracy matters.

Do not merge two people because they share a name and county. A birth date, age, custody number, court case, agency, and offense can help resolve identity when the live interface offers them. Note: A spelling difference, agency change, recent transfer, or source delay can prevent an otherwise valid person from appearing at once.

A “not found” result is inconclusive. The name may be entered differently, the agency may not expose that record, a transfer may be processing, or display rules may have changed. A release label also does not explain whether the court case ended, whether another hold exists, or whether the person moved to another custodian. Confirm the exact proposition with the office that owns it.

Register Genesee Release Alerts

Registration begins from the correctly matched VINELink record. Choose the notice or registration option and select an available method. Official Michigan guidance distinguishes phone from email and text. A phone registration uses a four-digit PIN. Email and text registration do not use that PIN under the Michigan brochure's instructions.

Registration works best before a likely release or transfer. A later search is retrospective and can be affected by data timing or display rules. The statutory MDOC route and ordinary VINELink registration are not the same service. Michigan VINE supplies the custody search and supported event notice. MDOC Crime Victim Services manages broader state-corrections notices for people who qualify under its process. Registering in one channel should not be described as automatic enrollment in the other. Ask the state office which notices apply and keep the registration information for later correction or confirmation.

Genesee RegistrationLink Release Notices

Genesee County has a distinctive notification structure. GCSO embeds Michigan VINE rather than publishing a local recent-release feed. Michigan introduced RegistrationLink to help a registration continue as a person moved among participating jail, court, and state systems. That design matters when a disappearance from local custody may mean transfer instead of community release.

The official RegistrationLink announcement reported participation figures when the feature launched in 2017. Those historical counts should not be treated as a guarantee of universal current coverage. The useful point is continuity across participating sources. Always inspect the agency on the current record and verify a crucial event with that agency.

A county-to-MDOC move illustrates the value and the limit. The local record may report transfer, and a later state record may identify MDOC custody. Neither event means the person returned to the community. Note: A continued registration follows supported custody events; it does not turn VINELink into a complete historical release certificate.

Confirm Genesee VINELink Releases

Use the source agency for confirmation. For the Genesee County Jail or Flint City Lockup, call GCSO inmate information at 810-257-3426. Ask whether the person remains booked and, if not, whether the exit was recorded as community release or transfer. A focused county request for the release transaction provides a more durable record than a notification alone.

For an MDOC person, compare VINELink with the official OTIS profile. OTIS can show prisoner, parolee, probationer, or recently discharged status. A parolee is outside prison under state supervision, while a discharged status means MDOC supervision ended. OTIS excludes jail-only Genesee detainees, so its lack of a result does not verify a county release.

Genesee VINELink Search Limits

VINELink is not the federal Bureau of Prisons locator. A federal prisoner or former federal prisoner must be checked in BOP's system. Immigration detention is also separate. The ICE locator addresses current detention and cannot be treated as a complete historic release source. Search those systems only when the case facts support that path.

Data may lag, and a missing record can have several causes. VINE itself warns users against exclusive reliance on the service. It is also not the legal source for a bond, dismissal, sentence, or final court disposition. The 67th District and Seventh Circuit records supply those legal events, while GCSO supplies the county booking transaction.

The Michigan public registry is another distinct channel. It covers only people required to register under the applicable law and is not a general released-inmate index. A registry status or photo cannot replace a VINE custody event. Likewise, VINE cannot establish that every open court matter ended. Keep custody notice, court disposition, state supervision, and registry status in separate lanes. This prevents one narrow record from being treated as a complete account of the person's custody path.

Read each result narrowly. A release notice can coexist with an open court case because a person may leave custody on bond. A transfer notice means custody changed hands. A negative search means only that the person was not located through the public search at that moment. Those distinctions keep a Genesee VINELink check accurate and useful.
